today it was supposed to rain. But the sun came out. And tess' clothes came off. And my new lens made it's maiden journey into my world. Here's a little taste of our fun...
it's not everyday i get to photograph my own daughter's wedding... but lucky me, i get to capture it not once but three times! Frannie & dan are getting married in stages - stage one, yesterday evening on cattle point in victoria, their legal marriage - with dan's family, dear sarah & tess & i to witness. Next stage, the wedding in the dominican (stay tuned end of november). Stage 3, the reception bash for family & friends at the marriot in victoria early december. Woot, woot. And the journey begins...
so a taste of stage 1 below... shot with tess in my arms, tears in my eyes, & the sun setting behind us. Joy.
i could not have picked a more perfect couple to end my wedding season with than sarah & evan. These 2 are amazing. Totally grounded & at ease, deeply in love, honest & sweet & fun. Their day was a fabulous west coast wedding - rain & wind - & it didn't faze them one little bit. I've always found it to be a beautiful omen for a marriage when a couple can welcome whatever their day brings with smiles & an open heart. Based on that, sarah & evan are going to have a long & delightful marriage, full of wonder & discovery & deep joy. For that is how they walked through their day. Thank you both, for allowing me to wander through your day with you, capturing a little of the magic you shared with us all...
I fell in love with photographs when I was a child, spending hours pouring over old family albums (probably when i was supposed to be tidying my room) - intrigued by the stories captured in those still frames, the people and places they held. Photography still fascinates me for much the same reason. I approach my work as i approach life... with dedication and wonder, a sense of discovery and joy, and a good dose of humour to keep even the challenges light. When working, i stay in the background, capturing events as they unfold rather than directing the movement of the day. In this way, the images reflect the truth and spirit of the day. Candid and uncontrolled, the photographs speak of the people they capture and the feeling of the moments they hold. Shots that demand a little organizing are arranged in an easy-going manner, with a spirit of sharing and fun. When photographing babies, children & families, I follow small (and large) clients around as they play and connect. Each session is more like a play-date or shared family-time, and before you know it, as you all settle into the fun, you won't even know you're being photographed!
