tina & robert

Sometimes the world seems very small. Robert lives in LA and Tina is immigrating there from Germany. And, it turns out, i tree planted with Robert's brother many moons ago in the interior of BC. Crazy. And we met on Hornby Island where they decided to gather their closest friends & family for an intimate wedding on the open field at Grassy Point. The sun shone bright & everything about the day had a little bit of magic to it. A very sweet sparkle that was warm & honest & fun. You can see the love & commitment Robert & Tina share with one another & their deep appreciation for their being together. It was a joy & a pleasure to get to witness their day & capture some of that magic in photographs. Here's a taste...

isabel rorick

Isabel Rorick is an artist living and working on Hornby Island. Originally from Haida Gwaii, Isabel is strongly connected to her family & heritage through her work. She weaves with spruce root, which she gathers herself on visits to Haida Gwaii. Her work is incredibly intricate and detailed. And the work she produces come from pieces that were used traditionally in the Haida culture - baskets for berry picking, rattles for babies, ceremonial hats. It is a joy and a pleasure to get to photograph her work, to spend that time with such beautiful pieces of art, steeped in cultural history. Definitely one of the gifts of my job. Here are a few photos from some of our sessions over the years. The basket below is her newest piece & is small, maybe 4" around, so you can imagine the fineness of the weave. Incredible. The 8-tiered ceremonial hat was many years in the making. It was a piece made out of her connection with her sister & their late grandmother. The berry basket above was photographed in stages - the 1st image being the final piece & the other two showing the details of her work in progress.

tessa & hal

Little Hal was conceived in South Africa, born in London & had traveled to 3 continents before i met him at the age of 3 1/2 months. Truly an international baby! Tessa settled in at her family's beautiful home at Dunlop Point on Hornby Island for the summer before making her way back to Africa in the fall. And what a fabulous first summer they had together... days of sunshine & shade to be found under their huge arbutus trees. Family & friends. Loads of love & fun & discovery. And such sparkle. It was glowing on that point all summer long! Here are a few of my favorites from one of our photo sessions together. Tessa, if you see this from somewhere over there on the other side of the world, blessings to you both!

a little hit of nila

nila is my niece chelsea's daughter (with her sweety bob) & she's the 1st of her generation in our growing family. She loves attention (which is a good thing because there are so many of us loving her), is as cute as they come & entirely fabulous to photograph. Yum. Here are a few photos of her, her mom (chelsea) & her grandma (that's my sister, linda).

toni & chris

Toni & Chris were married at Seabreeze Lodge on Hornby Island in september. Seabreeze is a FANTASTIC site for a wedding and the folks there are amazing hosts. Toni is in the fashion arena & so were a few of her bridesmaids & guests, so there was no shortage of high-watt fabulous style & creativity at their celebration. Toni & Chris have an ease, comfort and natural grace about them as well as quirky sense of play and fun. They were so in their element that day, that it was just delightful to get to stand back and capture one beautiful moment after another as it all unfolded. Here are a selection of photos from their day...
